Epazote
A most interesting member of the Amaranth family, Epazote is an extremely valuable and useful herb whose fragrance and flavor is unmistakable. Often used in Mexican cooking and a common addition to black beans for its antiflatulent properties, Epazote can be added to a variety of dishes and also made into a tea. Aromas are somewhat similar to oregano or tarragon but quite unique. Grow as an annual in zones 2-7 or a perennial herb in zones 8-10.

Latin Name: Dysphania amborsioides
Site and Soil: Full to part sun and well-drained soil.
Hardiness: Hardy to 10° F.
Size at Maturity: 1′ in height by 2-3′ feet wide.
Bloom Time: late spring long blooming
Pests & Diseases: No pests or diseases that we’ve seen on our plants here in Portland.
USDA Zone: 8-10
