An excellent dwarfing form of African Lily, Brilliant Blue features some of the deepest blue flowers of any Agapanthus we’ve seen. A very easy one to grow in pots and also in borders where temperatures don’t drop below 15°F. Mostly deciduous in winter and should be hardy for us here in the Northwest if given a good winter mulch.

Latin Name: Agapanthus x ‘Brilliant Blue’
Site and Soil: Prefers well draining soils in full sun. Drought tolerant once established.
Hardiness: 15º Fahrenheit
Size at Maturity:  1-2′ high by 1-2′ feet wide
Bloom Time: July through October, and sometimes even later
Pests & Diseases: None
USDA Zone: 8b

Likely the hardiest of any Agapanthus selection, Northern Star venturing all the way to USDA Zone 6! A great way to add a splash of color to the garden at a time of year when they often fade in our dry summers. Drought tolerant but also will take a good bit of summer water.

Latin Name: Agapanthus ‘Northern Star’
Site and Soil: Prefers well draining soils in full sun. Drought tolerant once established.
Hardiness: -5º Fahrenheit
Size at Maturity:  2-3′ high by 2-3 feet wide

Indigo Frost African Lily
A superb two-toned African lily with a bright purplish blue on the throat of the flower that transitions to bright white at the edge of the petals. Indigo Frost has a striking effect when the multitudes of flowers are in bloom for a long period during spring and then sporadically throughout the summer. Fairly compact, super floriferous and mostly deciduous, so don’t be disheartened if they look a little pitiful in the fall.

Latin Name: Agapanthus x ‘Indigo Frost’
Site and Soil: Prefers well draining soils in full sun. Drought tolerant once established.
Hardiness: 5-10º Fahrenheit
Size at Maturity:  1-2′ high by 2-3 feet wide
Bloom Time: March through May, and sporadically through summer into fall
Pests & Diseases: None
USDA Zone: 7b
