Poorinda Leanne Grevillea

Perhaps the easiest of any Grevillea to grow in our climate, Poorinda Leanne Grevillea is a spectacular cross between the lower growing Grevillea juniperiana and the always gorgeous Grevillea victoriae. Leaves are a silvery green above and bright silver beneath! The apricot colored frilly flowers hang like Proteaceous spiders from the silvery foliage and are in bloom throughout the year but most heavily in late fall through early spring. Overwintering hummingbirds love grevilleas so much that they often build their nest right inside the bush, keeping their food source just inches from their home!

Latin Name: Grevillea juniperiana x Grevillea victoriae
Site and Soil: Well draining unamended soils in full all day sun
Hardiness: Hardy to about 5 F.
Size at Maturity: 5’x8′
Bloom Time: All year!
Pests & Diseases: None that we have observed
USDA Zone: 7b

Murray Valley Queen Grevillea

An absolutely stunning evergreen winter flowering shrub from the coldest parts of Australia! Orange flowers look like psychedelic spiders hanging just beneath the handsome silvery green foliage and emerge throughout the year but most heavily in winter and spring. A true delight for hummingbirds. Requires full sun in well draining unamended soils. Avoid all phosphorous! Murray Valley Queen Grevillea has proven surprisingly hardy so far in our particularly cold pocket of SE Portland.

With its bronze oak-like foliage and deep purple tooth brush looking flowers, it's a stellar choice for a unique ground cover in a dry, sunny spot. Stays very low, growing only 6 inches or a foot tall and spread over 10 feet wide. Very cool!
