Lambert Cherry Tree

One of our most productive and reliable Cherry varieties, the Lambert Cherry Tree has been grown in the Pacific Northwest for over 150 years and is still in commercial production. Lambert Cherry features large, dark-red, richly flavorful, heart-shaped fruit which ripens in early to mid-July. This is a great fruit tree to grow in the Pacific Northwest.

Latin Name: Prunus avium
Site and Soil: Cherries like 1/2 day to full sun and well-drained soil.
Rootstock Description: Mazzard is a standard rootstock for sweet cherries. Vigorous, more tolerant of wet soils than Mahaleb (but good drainage still required). Resistant to root-knot nematodes and oak-root fungus.
Pollination Requirements: Requires another Sweet Cherry for cross-pollination. We suggest Royal Ann or Sam.
Hardiness: Hardy to about minus 20° F. or below.
Bearing Age: 2-3 years after planting.
Size at Maturity: 12-18 ft. in height.
Taste: Sweet, richly flavored
Fruit Skin: Dark red
Bloom Time: Early April
Ripening Time: August
Yield: 50+ lbs.
Pests & Diseases: Bacterial Canker can damage Cherry trees. Symptoms of bacterial canker are dead branches and bronze colored exudation on branches or trunk. Black Republican Cherry Tree

A parent of Bing Cherry, Black Republican Cherry Tree is produces large, sweet, dark red fruit that is prized for its intense Black Cherry flavor. Well adapted to our Northwest growing conditions, Black Republican bears abundant crops and is still grown commercially. This special variety was introduced in 1860 by Seth Lewelling, one of two brothers who were largely responsible for founding Oregon’s nursery industry. A Quaker and an Abolitionist, Seth Lewelling named this fruit in honor of those called Black Republicans, members of the Republican Party who opposed slavery.

One of our favorite fruits! Everyone loves ripe Cherries, especially sweet and delicious ones picked from your own tree. Enjoy Cherries fresh, dried, or frozen plus make delicious baked goods and juice. We offer the best varieties for the Northwest as well as for other regions of the U.S.
